Lutfus Sayeed

Lutfus Sayeed was born in “Old” Dhaka- the part of Bangladesh’s capital city that can trace its history to 7th century. Colorful Hindu pujas, political turmoil, unrelenting monsoon rain, oppressive summers, soothing autumns and the resulting squalor from all these experiences form the kernel of his creative urges. A member of an immigrant family since his early teens, the feelings of displacement is another thread in his perception about the world around him. He recently published a Bengali novel where he integrates political intrigue, immigration, romance and criminal ruthlessness in the rise and fall of a Macbeth like character in Old Dhaka. He explores the application of Macbeth in the life a Bangladeshi gangster who uses his ruthlessness to scale the ladder of political clout.

In the current reading, he will share the English translation of the first chapter of his novel,

Lutfus Sayeed lives in San Francisco with his family.
