Writing Pad

I'm a Los Angeles-based comedy writer and freelance journalist (NY Times (1), NY Times (2), Salon.com, San Francisco Chronicle) who hails from Chicago, Illinois. Some recent shows I've watched and loved are: Ted Lasso, Ramy, Upload, Mythic Quest, Dave, Love Life, Gentefied, The Queen's Gambit, Normal People, Shrill, Dead to Me, Search Party, The Crown and many others. I'm always watching new shows to improve my writing skills, discover new TV writing teachers and distill craft lessons in newsletters for Writing Pad, the award-winning writing school I co-founded 15 years ago with my writing partner and husband, Jeff Bernstein. The instructors at Writing Pad are all experienced screenwriters who've written on top TV shows (Superstore, Upload, The Handmaid's Tale) or sold pilots recently, many at the Co-EP and showrunner level.

I've hosted and moderated panels with Greg Daniels (Upload, The Office, Parks and Rec), Tanya Saracho (Vida), Janine Sherman Barrois (Claws), Issa Rae (Insecure), Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Dailyn Rodriguez (Queen of The South), Lauren Gussis (Insatiable), Stephen Falk (You're The Worst), Gloria Calderón Kellett (One Day At A Time), Tim Minear (911, American Horror Story), the heads of the TV fellowships (ABC/Disney, CBS, NBC, Nicholl), among others.

My husband and I co-wrote a 1/2 hour dramedy based on our experiences as swing dancers (which is how we met). I've taught writing for fifteen years, including classes at Pixar, Walt Disney Studios, The Writing Salon, and the Southern California Writers Conference. My poetry has been published in Pearl, Squaw Valley Review, California Quarterly, Karamu, and I've written articles on love and dating for Match.com. Great British Baking Show and Romantic Comedies are my addictions.
