Joey Garcia tends broken hearts, offers spiritual wisdom and challenges readers to get a backbone in “Ask Joey” her advice column now celebrating its 20th anniversary in the Sacramento News & Review. She received a 2014 Pushcart nomination in poetry and has enjoyed poetry fellowships in Paris and Spoleto. Born in Belize, and raised in the East Bay, she is at work on a memoir about using the spiritual traditions of her Mayan, Welsh and African ancestors to heal from trauma. Joey performed her solo piece, “¡Ay Caramba! Telenovelas Killed My Caribbean Mother!” last Spring at Stage Werx Theatre in San Francisco. Lit Camp changed her life.
