After spending her early childhood in the United States, her family moved to Seoul, Korea when she was six years old. The culture shock hit her in a way she didn’t expect. Her classmates and teachers at school bullied her, and it is during this hard time that she started to write a lot of poetry and stories. The writing ultimately saved her. | | At the age of eighteen, she returned to the U.S. to go to college, where she was hit with another wave of culture shock. The thick language barrier kept her from studying subjects of great interests to her like psychology and sociology.
