Sherilyn Connelly

SF Weekly
San Francisco, California
Sherilyn Connelly is San Francisco-based writer. She's a primary film critic for SF Weekly, and is also a contributing critic for the Voice Media Group. Her reviews have appeared both in print and online across the nation, appearing in the Village Voice, LA Weekly, OC Weekly (Orange County and Long Beach), Dallas Observer, Miami New Times, Denver Westword, Phoenix New Times, Houston Press, Riverfront Times (in St. Louis, MO), Minneapolis City Pages, and Broward New Times. She also writes for the popular nerd-culture site Topless Robot, where the fact that she couldn't care less about Ben Affleck playing Batman makes her a unique voice. She's been interviewed on the BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, and in a year in which two of the most critically-acclaimed movies involve either Legos or a space raccoon wearing people clothes, Sherilyn was the only critic for a major publication (specifically the Village Voice) to review the limited-release feature film My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks, as well as writing a 4,000-word examination and deconstruction of the film, examining its themes and tropes, for Topless Robot. She also thoroughly recapped the first two seasons of the show for SF Weekly, and presented a panel on writing about the show entitled "Deconstructing Equestria" at the 2012 Everfree Northwest fan convention. (But please don't call her a brony.) Her work has also appeared in anthologies such as Atheists in America, the Lambda Literary Award-winning The Collection: Short Fiction from the Transgender Vanguard, the Lambda Literary and Publishing Triangle Award-winning, Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation, and It’s So You: 35 Women Write About Personal Expression Through Fashion and Style.
